Duplicati
The copy that is not in this room
Scheduled, encrypted, incremental backups to somewhere off this box — a NAS, S3, Backblaze, Google Drive, another machine over SFTP. Encrypted before it leaves, so the destination never sees your files. HomeBox's own homebox backup protects its config; this is for everything else, and for getting it out of the building.

backupInstalling it
Open the dashboard, find it in the App Store and press Install. Or from a terminal on the box:
sudo homebox install backup
Where to open it
| Service | Port | First login |
|---|---|---|
| Duplicati | :8200 | Signs in with the password HomeBox generated at install — homebox secrets backup prints it. |
Open it at your box's address with that port — the dashboard links to it directly once it is running.
Good to know
- A backup nobody has restored from is a hypothesis. Use Restore then pick a single file and bring it back, today, not the day you need it
- Write the encryption passphrase down somewhere off this machine. Without it the backup is a pile of noise, including to you
- 3-2-1: three copies, two kinds of media, one off-site. A backup on the same box as the original survives a mistake but not a fire or a theft
